Verhaal in het kort

Wij, Gerrit en Demy, hebben besloten om voor een paar jaar naar Australië te verhuizen. Dit besluit is begin augustus 2006 genomen.
Na zo'n besluit ga je eerst eens op zoek naar veel informatie over emigratie en alles er omheen. We kwamen al snel op de internetpagina http://www.xpdite.net/ Hier wisselen mensen met hetzelfde doel informatie uit.
Van al deze informatie hebben we besloten om voor Skilled-Independent Visa te gaan. Gerrit's beroep komt daarvoor in aanmerking (civil engineer). Eerst moet Gerrit zijn diploma laten erkennen door Engineers Australia. Naast vertalen van diploma's, de nodige stempels bij notaris, mag je ook nog een CDR maken. Dit is een rapport over drie projecten waar hij aan gewerkt heeft en wat dan volgens jou voldoet aan hun wensen. Na een drie maanden werk eraan hebben we het 27 maart opgestuurd.
Op 16 april kregen we dan de verlossende brief. Gerrit is Professional Civil Engineer ASCO-code 2124-11. Daarmee staat zijn beroep op de MODL-Lijst. Dit is een lijst met zeer gewilde beroepen in Australie. Daarmee krijg je voorrang bij visum aanvraag. Ondanks dat ben je zo'n 7 maanden aan het wachten op je visum.
Intussen was ik al een beetje bezig geweest om de nodige documenten te verkrijgen. Om geen extra kosten te krijgen heeft Demy de Ielts-test (engelse test) op 14 april 2007 in Amsterdam gedaan. Ze heeft het ruim gehaald, dus dat konden we ook weer afvinken.
Op 9 mei hadden we alle papieren compleet en was het tijd om onze visumaanvraag op te sturen. Nu is het lange wachten begonnen.

After a lot of reading we decided to go for the Skilled Independent Visa. Gerrit has the occupation that's wanted by Australia (Civil Engineer). First he had to get his diploma acknowledged by Engineers Australia. With translating the diploma, getting stamps from a notary, you also have to write a CDR. That's a report about three projects where he worked on and includes the point Egineers Australia desires. After three months it was finally ready and on 27 March it was send to Australia.
On 16 April we got the letter that Gerrit is a Professional Civil Engineer Asco-code 2124-11. By this letter we know his job is on the MODL-list This is the list with the most wanted occupations in Australia. And with that your Visa application is treated a bit faster. But it still takes about 7 months before you get your visa.
In the meantime I've been busy with getting some documents. And to avoid some extra costs I toke the IELTS Test (english test) on 14 April 2007 in Amsterdam. I passed, so an other thing on the list is done.
On 19 May we completed all papers and it was time to send the application to Adelaide. Now the long waiting has started.
